View Full Version : Animation: "Violent Tendencies"
LyonHaert 01-28-2003, 05:35 AM Hey, haven't posted many finished projects here, I usually just lurk. Here is a short animation I did for my midterm project last semester. Pretty much my first animation, besides the bouncing ball thing he made us do, and first character animation at that. If I remember correctly, it's a little over 40 seconds. Yes, it's cel-shaded, because the character is based on Worms, which had that look. And for those that I know will ask, this was all done in LightWave with the BESM shader.

"Violent Tendencies" (http://www.lyonhaert.net/N335/1/JFant_Proj1_sm.avi) DivX 5.0.2 encoded, roughly 1.5 MB, 320x240 (original was 640x480)
Comments are welcome.
I'll post last semester's final project animation in another thread in a few days.

Very nice, I love those appearing/disappearing hands.
The only part that looked a little strange, was when he was smashing the flower.
Other then that, you captured the Worm's guys excellently!

An excellent use of making more out of less. The toonshader in this looked beautiful because of the simplicity of the models and backgrounds! The animation was also pretty good considering it's just a worm! Pretty cool!

Yes very nice little cell shaded animation, it would have been nice to have a twist at the end of the story though. Well done.

i think the hand movements could use more of a violent swing...it looks too smooth...other than that  its great

yeah, i know it's not perfect. i could have gotten the motions down a lot better if i hadn't left myself a week to animate the whole thing (procrastination). the way i rigged the hands was awkward, too.
but, i will certainly return to doing Worms stuff someday. when i do, i will completely remodel him so that he has a mouth, hideable forefinger (for pulling triggers), and an articulate tail. and weapons, lots of weapons.

I think the animation was done pretty good considering its your first real animation sequence attempt. The style reminds me a little of Aardman animation's early work.
Good work! The only criticism I would have would be to make the story a little more in-depth. (This is of course if it were to be used as part of a demo-reel)
Otherwise, keep posting more of your work...!!

A pretty creative little animation here. I like the worm's subtle toon-hand effect.
Quite good overall.
