View Full Version : 3DS MAX 4 vs 3DS MAX 5 (animation-wise)
chepe297 01-28-2003, 05:26 AM I am a poor artist and I am just wondering whether I should spend my money on 3DS MAX 5.
Is there much difference between 3DS MAX 4 and 3DS MAX 5 in terms of animation? In other words, are there better and newer tools for animation in 3DS MAX 5? By the way, I am only concentrating on animation, so if there aren't much difference, I think I'll stick with 3DS MAX 4 until 3DS MAX 6 comes out.
Thank-you all in advance for your replies.

OMG! this is like the 10th post on max4 vs max5... PLEASE look at Discreets web site first and also use the search tool...
There is a dope sheet editor on max5 and also 5.1 is much more stable....

I would say 'yes', there is a difference. There are a lot more conveniences in 5. Set Key is new and good. Also, the Character Node and Skin Pose are good. Strictly animation.....Well, you gotta love the auto-tangent. And the merge animation stuff is pretty cool. Not exactly nonlinear, but it is something.
Yeah, it's worth it to me. Definitely. BTW, I'm poor too.

EDIT: Forgot about Dope Sheet, excellent. And spline IK, good for some things. Bone tools, excellent. Renamer, excellent. Reactor controller works in 5.1 (yea!).
Not to mention all the other stuff in 5; the extra lighting and UVW improvements.

Aaron Moore - Sorry to waste your time. I admit that I should check the links first, but I am really short of time at the moment to sift through the discreet web site and this forum. Sorry about that Aaron and everyone else.
Mahlon - Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciated it. :scream:
