I was thinking of work style and thought wouldnt it be great if you could use the mouse with your left hand to change the rotation, zoom and position of the canvas while painting with your right hand on the graphics tablet. I know it would take a little getting use to but once youve come accustom to it I think it would provide a great way to work!
opinions?

Hmmmm, now there's a thought, Seems like you would need two cursors up at the same time.

As I confuse rather easily, and have enough trouble with one cursor, and all the context dropdowns, right click, left click, double click, etc., etc., I might decide to have a drink instead. Now there's an idea! Food for thought though. Keep it up. Made me think about it for a bit.

I still remember adjusting from paper to using a graphics tablet. This would be a similar easier step. For me one of Painters edge over PS is its ability to rotate the canvas, which I cant believe PS still cant do.
Also there wouldnt be need of 2 cursors ..

With the ability to map the buttons on the Intuos 3, you can do some of what you want.

Check out John Derry's thread on the Wacom Intuos 3 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=299132).

I rarely touch the mouse when I'm in Painter.

NuLOOQ (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/nulooq/home/US/EN,crid=2600)

It's Mac only, and I'm not sure if it works with Painter, but it's kind of on topic, eh? ;)

Now, that looks promising...would be worth it to see how exactly it works...thanks.

Hi, Brendan,

I think your idea is good, especially because it works already NOW in some ways!. I have an Logitech mouse with six buttons and a wheel. I had already used the wheel for zooming in painter, but I had extra buttons customized for opening websites and adjusting sound volume etc.

Now, after reading your post, I tried the following: customized wheel button (pressing the wheel) to "space". When I zoom, i most often want also to move the pic in window. Now its very covenient, as you have mouse on your left hand, your pen cursor becoming a grabber at once.

On each side of the mouse there are "thumb back" and " thumb forward" buttons (funny names, I think). I made other to paly "alt" and other "space". Now by " squezing" the poor mouse with left hand, i rotate canvas with the pen (changed to that pointing finger), not having to push two buttons on keyboard. I can have the mouse at much more ergonomic place than my keyboard (with my awfully big wacom).

In Intuos3 i have left side buttons dedicated for CMD, ALT and up- & downsizing the brush.

I have already worked trough a couple of images with this left hand mouse system, and it works. Thanks Brendan!

And thanks also, Mark. NuLOOQ sounds very interesting! On their site they spoke
only about CS2-packet. I'm sure that in the near future this kind of tool will be a real hit for painter-painters!

Well, I just spoke with Logitech. The usual corporate speak of "yes, they're planning on expanding, but we don't know when". It's inexpensive enough and if it allows upgrading, if they do indeed expand, then it might be worth considering.

Laurindo (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=239335) nice one! Ive got a logitech mouse aswell and tried it out. Its a great step forward but but not quite there. Itd be great if you could keep drawing while you rotate the canvas. It would add extra flexibility and give the drawing process a more fluid feel.
At the moment it feels like Im putting my pen down to move my canvas and then picking the pen up again to start drawing.
cheers

Thats the way I'm always using the mouse. Atleast in photoshop (kind of new to painter).

I'm drawing with my left hand though so the right hand switches between the keyboard and the mouse (zooming with wheel, selecting tools etc). The only thing you need to do is lift the pen enough so it doesn't affect the mouse when you move it.

I'm a bit tired so maybe I missed something but it doesn't seem very new to me.

Two cursors would be cool though.. networking collaboration aah.. brainstorm.. better quit while I still can hehe.

/edit.. I recall the intous mouse can be used to zoom, rotate key modifier etc at the same time as you draw with the pen.. Pretty standard in CAD or something the like. I have mine stored somewhere at the bottom of some box or the other so I can't try it out...
