Hydraulx, based in Santa Monica, California, is seeking an exceptionally talented Lead 3D Technical Effects Artist for long-term employment for high-end commercials and feature films. We are looking for talent that can handle high-pressure projects, help to drive the creative process, and manage other artists to complete a project. The desired skill set must revolve around Maya 4.5, with intimate knowledge of advanced 2D/3D pipelines.
Overview:
The Lead 3D Technical Effects Artist is responsible for completion of all aspects of a 3D shot, with the exception of high-end character animation and programming, from start to finish. This may include: particle effects, complex modeling, deformation and/or animation, photo-real lighting, photo-real texturing, and shot design. Other responsibilities will include brainstorming and R&D for complex effect sequences, as well as some on set supervising to see the entire process from start to finish.
Responsibilities include:
Being an integral part of a tight knit team, coordinating with other digital artists on effects design, execution and completion. Leadership skills are important, as well as the ability to communicate with others and to delegate work.
Being a self starter. Taking shots from storyboards, and then, using all of the necessary tools and artists, to completion. Managing schedules, while working with others is a must.
This is not just a desk job. You will have access to on set supervision, element shooting, and film screenings. This position involves working with directors, creatives, project bidders, and producers on a daily basis.
2-3 years experience with effects animation for feature film and commercials required.
Thorough knowledge of both 3D and 2D graphics techniques required.
Knowledge of peripheral effects software: Inferno, Photoshop, Boujou, etc.
Intimate knowledge of Alias|wavefront Maya 4.5. Mental Ray experience a big plus but not required. Must be extremely well rounded and self-sufficient.
Prior knowledge of generating 3D elements for Inferno or Combustion.
