Please forgive my noobness. Would i post a pic here for the forums consideration. Hovling. Not quite Hobbit, not quite Elf,not quite Goblin.Adult size similar to that of a ten year old human child .while not as beautiful as an Elf, not quite as ugly as a goblin or hobbit.Would this character shape be ok?

Hi all, my previous reply didnt upload my early pic, so im trying again. Because the brief said Race as apposed to species im going for a humanoid type shape. The creatures in question have soem kind of ordered society. The creature is similar to a ten year old human child.Head shape and features are not as important to me as the clothing , as its this i want to model more so.However, i see the creature having a goblin/elf type head, but suggestions are welcome .Because of work i have had little time to get to grips with the model, but will do some work this week. Please let me know what you think ????. Thanks
Regards
Joe

Some boots and other leather objects built.Refining the leg mesh.I see the creature holding a farming tool of some sort.I will update this pic when ive refined the jerkin and sleaves.

After rigging the mesh to check for deformation I noticed the longer jerkin could cause problems later when animating. The back of the jerkin tends to stretch under as the legs move forward.I decided to shorten the jerkin.Buttons and pockets where also added.Modelling crease "disturbance" into the cloth feels alien as im having to model against the flow of the mesh.the sleeves will require quite a few creases running down the arms.next update should have a "Proto" head of some sort attached. After changing my original concept of a skull cap for a straw hat of some sort, ive decided to go back to a skull cap.

started the head.shortened jerkin and added some small detail.Nothing major.

I was applying some fall off here to see what kinda skin most suits the creature. This pose kinda suits him i think

joe!! That last update is awsome!..I love the pose and the creature he's becoming. It would be nice to see some bigger pics (you need websapce) :)...also looks like you've already got some animation tests down which is very cool. Many people don't think about how the mesh will deform when bones are added to it...its good to grab a feel for that early on.. I await your updates!!

model onward!! :wip:

Thanks Satyricon. This newer update is not as obvious as the previous.I wasn't happy with his facial features so I remodelled and test rendered which is the first figure of the 3.I thought the new features made him look a little severe so I went about giving him more female type facial features which is the third pic of the set.I sorted out some vert probs he was having and attached his collar and did some work on his sleeves.I hadn't intended building him arms as they where not to be seen, but I noticed the sleeves looked better with a slight opacity so I gave him a set of arms to show through in the final render.I came across a pic of a dress while researching clothing so thought id try to replicate it which is the second pic in the set.Her head is just a copy of his with the features remodelled.I hadn't intended modelling a female and she needs a bit of work, so I may not proceed with her.

Hovlings are very common throughout Middle Earth and have existed for as long as anyone can remember. There quite docile and amiable creatures, hard working and industrious. An Adult male is no larger than a ten year old human child.Because of there slight build they don't fight a great deal, However, they exist in such large numbers that an army of Hovlings would raise even Saurons Brow.Hovling Females are known to be enchantresses and are said to be able to "Talk the Feet off a Hobbit".

Thanks OverIguana.I agree with you. There's a few areas I would like to tackle but time is against me.I may go back to him next week.It was a case of upload what I have done or don't upload at all.

Beautiful!!!...Really like the boots and his stance.. I do think the hands could be a bit bigger and more relaxed also i'd love to see some different poses!!. The simplicity of his facial features looks good and fits the story for me!! :)...Great stuff Joe!! Keep it up!

Thanks Fetus, I agree with what you said.I don't have time to do anything this week, so I may go back to it late next week.It was a learning experience.I have a better understanding now of what is expected from the works here so I will try to improve on future submissions.
