Hey,

(again, for anyone not following this relentless onslaught of questions: I'm a former Max user moving to Maya, so forgive my jargon)

How do I reset the pivot point (where the manipulator rotates about), like centering it to the object.

just press the "help" key for free adjustment or via menu (for centering) modify > center pivot

Here you go...

Modify > Center Pivot

Also if you want to move it anywhere, just select the object hit the Insert key, move the pivot, and hit Insert again.
