Unbelievable! How does patience do you have?! More than two years you have devoted to one project. I am sure that during this time you had a lot of new ideas. And you're not distracted! I must take with you an example. :)

Hi Sebastien,

very beautiful work! Its amazing that two people with two laptops did such an complex project in their spare time. I just found this thread and read it entirely. I learned so much. Its amazing to read about all the little tricks to get this huge thing done. I would like to hear more about organizing scenes, previsualization, "pipelines", minimize render times... and i cant believe that most of it is done in maya sofware.

What about making a DVD with the film and an in-depth documentation as feature? :) All the crazy CG people would buy it. And there are tons of tutorials but nobody can tell me how to organize a shortfilm.

ssebastienn, I'm from Russia.

Very interesting making of, thanks!
It's inspired me for my small project
I have a question.
-How to be long picture rendering.
-How many pass you use in rendering
-Configuration of your computers.
-And as you have organized production,
if it is possible in more details

And as I wish to congratulate you with Christmas ;)

Hi Sebastein

Nice work. I've only just discovered your project in progress but it's been fascinating catching up on what you've been doing. I'm assuming you're working on it alongside some freelance work or something? I'm curious how you're finding the itme to do it all and how many people you have assisting you.

My project is something I have to juggle in my free time outside of my day job, and it can be tricky finding large chunks of time to focus on really creative tasks. Small portions of time to check in on my team are easier but then I find myself without enough time to actually do some of the fun jobs myself!

Again, commendable work. I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Mike

hi, finally reached the last page of the tread, and I have to say that have been a great experience, not only because all what I have learned just because you even get married in this time. I don't know if has been inspiring or frustrating to me because I feel lightyears far away of accomplish something of the quality of you work.
I have many, many, many, many, many, many, many cuestions but in this moment I just want to ask: in my college we made an animatic, usually the story board composing in after effect with some basic animation, do you use something like that or just the previz (that how you call it, right?)?

btw, Virginie also should participate in this thread, you are getting all the merits even when you always mention her

thanks for sharing this proyect with all of us, I hope find more people like you in this site and in the world too

Thanks

Hey Everyone! :p

It’s been a while! But don’t you worry, Virginie and I haven’t given up “Meet Meline”!
A lot happened since then, we’ve been quite busy, so we couldn’t focus on updating the blog! We’re sorry! :)

Anyway, today, we received our copy of 3D WORLD Magazine (#126, February 2010). And Yes! “Meet Meline” is featured in it! It’s a 2 pages articles written by Andy Price.
No need to say that we are extremely proud of it! :)

So Thanks Andy and 3D WORLD! :)

Great film! It was worth the wait. I loved it, and I can't wait to show it to my kids.

The quality of the vimeo release isn't the greatest though. Will we be able to get a full resolution high quality version?

The animation is just beautiful and so soft, so beautiful colours...
But even better thing to watch is your 'making of' as it actually shows your passion, talent and capabilities.
It's so nice to watch all these different stages of production process, which first look almost like chaotic, and then they all come to one, big, working final product, that looks so amazing!
I really liked it!

Just saw the movie on Vimeo. Extremely cute little girl, well animated! And the house is full of fantastic moody details. Reminded me somewhat on Myazakis Totoro (in feeling) since shes meeting strange creature. Thanks for making it! :)

VM

beautifully done, great work! and nice idea! my only crit' is the girl's face. she could have had a better facial rig and be more expressive, she looks a bit like a doll. the model does 'help' that doll look, but I think the problem is mainly with the rig and facial animation. I love the shaders, especially her skin shader, and, of course, the light is gorgeous :)

Must sy, all around top-notch job. The two things that stood out the most to me i think, was the excellent camera movements, and the sound. Both really made the production for me. But everything was definately unbelievable, and you guys did a fantastic award-worthy job.

Fantastic work. :) All done at a high level. looked this video 5 times. But little did not have enough time to fully disclose the plot. I have two or three minutes to enjoy this. I wanted that little girl was more outside the home. Bright, beautiful and a lot of greens. Simply - fabulous! Everything else is just a high level. Well done guys. Excellent!

Excellent short film. The sights, the sounds and everything was just awesome!! Just out of curiosity, what are the specs of the laptops you two used to make this film? I was a bit surprised when I was watching the "making of" video and seen that laptops were used.

Very nice, Big respect! I love the color theme and that glow feeling, just very appealing for the eye. what i really loved was the camera movements. I love the shot where the camera shoots her between those chains, she disappears but the camera is still following here. great. That part didn't felt CG at all.

great job
