View Full Version : The Gift - VFX Challenge - Digiman

I'm in on this contest.
It is just too good not to do something.
I know I am getting a late start, but that will just have to do. I am right in the middle of another huge project, with not much time to devote to this contest. I will just have like a week and a half before the end of the contest to actually work on it. So we'll see how it goes.
BTW, I think this is a great idea for a contest.
It covers many of the VFX bases.
Best of luck to everyone else.

and yet another...

Looks like a really good start so far. I wouldn't worry about getting into this challenge late, seems like a lot of us are a bit behind and we have a month still to go.

Here is what little progress I have.
Shot the footage.-
having looked at it in retrospect, I would much rather have shot in darker conditions.
Second problem is having shot with a wide angle lens. The shot looks good but i am having a terrible time matching the scene in 3D.

I used Icarus to remove some distortion in the previous challenge, it's free for non-commercial use.

I have solved my problem of having shot with the wide angle lens. It was not fun, and took much longer than I would have liked, but....
I simply placed an object in front of the camera that closely resembled the shape of the lens I shot with. I used a fully transparent material, with a high amount of refactivity. After much tweaking, I finally got a 3D match on my scene.
