View Full Version : Bullet-time how to?
I literally need to mimic the bullet time form the matrix movies. I setup my explosion fx to shatter a lightbulb with a bullet. How do i stop the animation mid-stream so i can rotate the camera around the objects and then resume?
Wasn't there a plugin for this somewhere?

KeyFrame the Time slider in the Deformer.

Just use a time track, apply it to all your other animation tracks then set the keys as needed to slow down time at the right point. If it's involving dynamics and the rest, i can't remember if there was a plugin a while back called "Bullet Time", try searching the links on plugincafe.com

With some fiddling that did the trick thanks.:)
Two more small questions?
Can i bake the explosion fx to PLA? Can i then go into point mode and edit each fragment so that each looks more like glass and less like squares/triangles?
What does the "mask" feild do in the explosion fx deformer and how do i use it?

Don't think you can pla the fx shards, the mask simply allows you to set up a selection set which will be affected by the explosionfx

Ok thank you. I looked on your site for this same effect but i couldn't find it. Do you have a direct link?
Help, Urgent,
I need to export this entire scene, including shatter and animation, to 3d studio max.
Please someone tell me there is a way to do this.

You could try fbx--but I think the answer is no.

Err..why not do the animation in MAX ? Its dynamics engine puts C4D's to shame..it can do accurate belivable collisions, and best still can fracture objects..perfect for shatter effects. All the pieces are given keys and can be manipulated at will. And it handles interesecting objects very well
By the way here is my sad tut one of my first and bad qulaity recording sorry,,you have to be a posting member to d/l

In c4d there may be another way to approach the lightbulb effect
Work out which are you in and out points ( if ts and object flying through) or just decide on the bulk pieces layout
Use knifes and splits to seperate the main chunks and then adjust their positions very slightly so they don't intersect and hide them
Do your animation before collision that at collison hide the main object and unhde the new shards, have dynamics work on them which you can bake
For the smaller bits use a standard emitter with some well placed deflectors, again you can bake standard emitters..not too sure how you would go about exporting the particles
There use to be a coffee expresion that would freze standard emitters as in bullet time, i wil have a dig around the net for it..yes it is on c4dplugins and is called bullet time fx
Here is my results so far...

Very nice but i think a bullett would pretty much obliterate the bulb, it would certainely move off it's axis
This has been on my wish list for some time and when i have a chance i will get down to some bullet through glass effects
Actually i have a brilliant airgun pellet through a lightbulb clip that i want to recreate
Thanks. Yup this is a grab of the animation. The bullet goes through the lightbulb in slow motion.
I was suprised to see that in my reference pics a real bullet makes it all the way through the bulb before the bulb shatters. Pretty cool.

yes an airgun pellet makes it through before total shatter and a bullet would be much faster..pretty tough cookies these light bulbs
