so i unplugged my pc to move while i paint my studio. once i plugged in back in, the shit hit the fan....

first, once in windows, it was moving very slow and couldn't access the E drive [serial ata extra harddrive, no OS on it]. then, windows kept freezing up. i restarted several times, sometimes it would freeze during boot. then, it did a "disk drive verification" or some kind of test. once i did get back in windows, i couldn't access the HDD at all. just going to My Computer would freeze up the pc.

needless to say, my E drive it acting weird. i unplugged that drive and everything is fine, except i just restarted again [moved it again for painting] and now Windows says "Validation Not Completed:Invalid Product Key"? i do own Windows XP, i have the box and i never got this message before.

is this because i removed the other hdds? i did a virus scan and a spyware scan... nothing. i thought maybe the sata cord got bumped, but i replugged it in, restarted, still weird.

windows xp
main hdd with os fine, acting fine
2 sata hdds, one acting weird

does a dead hdd act that way? does it slow down your computer to a crawl? it still shows up under the disk manager [when plugged in]. i just can't access the data without it freezing things up.

thanks in advnce.

so i ran windows update and the "Validation Not Completed:Invalid Product Key" went away.... guess something went weird when i pulled the other HDDs.

so it looked like some bad sectors or something. after several Chkdsk attempts, one finally did the trick and fixed everything. one folder full or images got moved into a recovery folder or something, but didn't loose anything. had some kind of "inpage" error.

going to replace the hdd with a new one and use this one as the travel / junk drive so if it goes, no lose.
