View Full Version : Classic Kids tv show
Daveaustin 01-27-2003, 11:11 AM here's a little animation of something i've been working on,
i'm not going to tell you what tv prog it's based on, but if anyone from Cosgrove Hall reads/sees this
then please give me a job, i'd love to see this old tv show brought back to life in cg!
everyone else.. please enjoy, and there will be more to come...
[this isn't a profit making project, just something to practice low poly modeling]

YAY we have a winner!!
i'm working on DM hinself at the mo, cos we can't have a car without a driver....
btw... i know the anim doesn't quite loop properly... [the car that is] but it's only a quick test
for those of you interested, i will keep going on this.. so keep checking for updates
thanks

As always, Dave
The only thing obvious to me is the walk cycle of the Baron's 'walker'. The weight transfer needs to move over each foot a little more and it needs a little more 'spring'. Great work so far, though. Translating 2D animation to 3D convincingly is always tough.
Can't wait to see DM. Will you be doing Penfold as well? :D

i saw your movie, good animation ! perhaps, little slow and short...
make some camera' track on the little car-ship, i think it may be more dynamic in the action. (make it turn back quicky for example, to show the biiiig bot which is following the little car)
good luck !

cheers phil, i'll look into it..
i wasn't sure how the walker robot moved, cos all i had was one ref pic...
seeing as it's called the frog.. i'm gonna make it jump
Manicalavera15 : thanks, i'm going to have a play around with the camera animation... i just wanted to see how it looped
it's only a short walk cycle of the robot, basically 48 frames, thought it looked a little empty so i animated the car as well
i know it doesn't look quite right without danger mouse in there.. but i'm working on the fella at the mo [character modeling is not my thang]

Ok dont mind me im reminising about my child hood at the moment. I really like what you have done there. I think the frog did jump, as it was baron greenbacks craft??? Maybe wrong. Anyway really nice what you done there, keep it up buddy :buttrock: :buttrock:

howdy dave,
the car kinda gives it away for me, theres only one cartoon with a funky ass yellow sports car i know of!
oh yeh, like the style. how did u get the toon look? what software/plugins you use for it?
i'll keep my eyes peeled for your update ani.

thanks everyone who's commented..
Ai_jai - i created the toon look in xsi 3.. it's on of the available preset shaders, which i've tweaked..
the ink outlines is a shader that's applied to the camera, this has a whole load of options to alter the appearance of the ink outline.. welll worth lookin into
and finally the depth of field was an output shader, applied to the image after it had rendered.. not perfect but it looks ok...
i tried using the DoF that blurs whilst rendering, but messes the ink outline up something rotten!!
The best bit about modeling the DM series is that all the models are sooo simple.. fast.. an pretty much no texturing involved
Phil... cheers, if you find anything lemme know.. i know there's a DVD out there at the mo, but i haven't bought it
