E-Frontier is giving away Poser 5 for FREE for the next few days. There is a LOT of free content and also commercial content available for them, and you can do not only still images, but also animation as well! (I do poser content for a living.) Anyway, head over to www.contentparadise.com
Their servers are SWAMPED, and you might not be able to download it until the aftermath of the carnage, but once you have "purchased" it for free, downloads or resets are good forever.

I've seen people make a ton of money off poser, so if you can't see the potetional for making money and want to harp on others who do I won't judge you.

Yea most definatly I used to use it often a few years back for pre-vis and for some university assignments, my focus was on making anime like scenes using after effects, now I use maya. Allot of cool things can be done with poser , and a bit of imagination.

Well I'm excited about this 'cause I make most of my money from archvis. I was thinking of investing in Poser as a quick solution to populating my architectural scenes but now there's no need to lay out any cash!

wow, awesome!

I find the program great simply for posing a model in order to draw the proportions correctly.

I tried downloading it last night but it kept failing. It says I've tried too many times tonight and I have to try tomorrow. I just hope I can get it before the offer expires in the next couple of days.

After 'buying' Poser 5, you get 10 download tries which last... as far as I know, forever. So, you can download it at a later date, no worries.

I personally find Poser 5 great for exporting out bvh motions (such as those from the walk designer) into something like XSI.

I'll grab myself a copy even just for the software hording sake of it.

But yeah, could be good for archvis type scenes or perhaps VFX related projects in which the characters aren't the main focus.

Pretty cool. I used the demo once to see how it works for previz/storyboards, I'll definately grab a free copy.

Please don't kill me now!..but!..

Hey! girls of all ages around the world loves to play with their virtual dolls (Poser)&(Daz) etc.
So maybe it's not such a bad idea to maybe make some Quality props and arch-stuff for
their virtual darlings!.Many people-me included - was laughing about this poser stuff but hey!
this thing is a growing market. My sister's kids are crazy about this and put all their savings
and their mom's money into this and when I ask them what they want for Christmas and
birthdays it's always : gift-voucher for new clothes and stuff for their darlings!.

Anyway! I'm grabbing this offer for our pre-viz & arch-viz - the characters are good enough
for an archviz animation I think? look at: "Victoria3" from Daz she's hot and free 0$ etc.

*runs of silently to start up a swedish poser-content site!* he-he! :D

Steps to take.

-Head to contentparadise.com
-Sign up.
-See the large banner with "Poser 5 FREE!." written on it, on the front page (it's hard to miss).
-Add it to your cart (Poser 5, not the banner) and hit the checkout.
-Download it if possible, and enjoy :arteest:
-If download is too slow, download it later, as links last until you need them.

Their servers are swamped. they posted an "official" statement that as long as you complete a "purchase" of the free P5, that the downloads will be perpetually available. Also, you can get multiple licenses, in case you want it on multiple systems, or want to "renderfarm" an animation.

They also posted that at any given second, over 500 people are trying to access the file!

My recommendation: get however many licenses you want, and downlod it next week, after the traffic dies off.

Sorry for not subbing to the thread, so I could field questios....

There you go.

In all seriousness, many pro graphic designers have made money with Poser for years. I have never used software like Poser or Vue in my own work. Not that there's anything wrong with using Poser or Vue...........

Poser can be a tool for 3d props like any other tool that's used for 3d props. Some of us like making our own stand in people, vehicles, trees, flowers, etc. But you can buy props and use them right along with your custom made 3d stuff. You put your custom 3d stuff in the forefront. Then populate the rest of 3d environment with 3d props from who knows where. You know the rest of us don't need to know.

Hey who's the stand-in cg stunt person falling from the third floor? A “poser” that's who.

Someone points out a Poser guy sitting in a car three blocks away from your custom modeled sports car in your render. Now either they have good eyes or they were spying on you as you worked on the piece.

Have fun.

This is going to be cool

I've got a little one, and at this price for Poser & Brice I could install it on there system and get them started at a young age in the world of CG :) They enjoyed the Barbie Dress up game, this would be 1000s more fun for them :D

Nah.. EF is an international company, and even accomodates the japanese "backed money card" system, and even accomodates a japanese version of their website.

My original link was ONLY to CP, NOTthe product, because you need to create and account first, and then "purchase" the copy for free.

Also, if I haven't mentioned it here, you can purchase it a numbe of times, and then install it on multiple systems for a "renderfarm" type setup!

And while some might think using poser isn't creative, do a sarch for V3 or Aiko3 in the various poser stores and galleries.. there are over 2000 compatible products for EACH, and if you look at the possible combinations of morphs, textures, and clothing, you'll find it's almost impossible to recreate someone else's render, without explicit instructions on how they did it.

(I'm not talking about crap "vanilla" renders, but renders by people who know the tool, and how to use it best.)

Even as a poser content developers, I'm sometimes amazed at a render, when I see what the base character is!

Since you can't just say "give me 3 copies" or whatever, you have to go back to the first page, click the banner, and Add to cart. Just do the same process over as many times as you want.

Nope. Got it to start 3 times but each one timed out, and in the View My Stuff tab it shows that they counted as downloads even though I didn't get it.
That's why I "bought" 3 copies so I could have 30 download attempts instead of just 10.
Maybe I'll get a complete download in about a month.

Don't forget that Poser 5 also includes cloth simulation, strand-based hair and a REYES/raytracing hybrid renderer with node-based materials. So even when not using pre-fab content, it can be a useful tool for your own meshes.

You may also want to visit my web site for the Poser 5 rendering FAQ: http://www.stewreo.de/poser/ and a fe scripts and tutorials.

If you can, wait a couple of days until the traffic goes down. You should have a lot more luck then with downloading. As long as you registered for the free download (that is, "bought" it for $0), you will be able to download it until 2099 or so.

The "View My Stuff" button is on the left side of the web page, under the search field.

Well seeing as how this is all a marketing ploy to get people to upgrade to their latest and greatest software then yes.. they probably SHOULD have foreseen their servers melting down.

As for the rest of your post, Ingrate MY ASS. I have bought software from these guys before (poser 2, 4, and Bryce back when they still owned Bryce)

I don't owe them a freaking thing, but if they go around advertising free stuff then they SHOULD be able to deliver. If they can't dish out the goods then they should STFU.

And so should you.

There's a set of square meshes with a low opacity shader stuck to my wall but the rendering looks totally fake. Not enough final gathering of photons and the shadow mapping looks totally fake :D
