Hi all my first post here, it seems I found a hidden ocean Node in MAYA`s documentation, does any1 know anything about this??

I dont know exatcly wich page but open up maya 4.0 and do a search for ocean, it will find it immediately, I also found some other places.... the cool thing it has attribs for foam and such I just haven`t found a wy to create the shader.... let me know if any1 finds anything on it

Very interesting!
but when I do a "createNode ocean", nothing happens (result: unknown) -> that node is not build into Maya 4
So I guess, if this node is new to the documentation of Maya 4.0, we can expect something for the future..... - if that node exists through older docs, they probably never finished it or took it out.

It's gonna be available in the next version along with a new dynamics system.
I saw it and it's amazing, but it's not yet implemented in this version. :(

The next version ???

Are you saying that Maya 5 will be out soon ?
Do you have any other information about this, would be very interesting.

I don't know when it's gonna be released and I think it will be Maya 4.5...I can tell you that the new dynamics system and the ocean 2d/texture feature are astonishing. I don't understand why they included the ocean node in the documentation of this release.
The features will be kinda like this:

if the ocean node can do anything like in the pictures bye bye digital nature tools.

Whats about the new particle system. I am a particle freak and really exited now , but i couldnt find any info on that on the links you wrote. Do you have any info what will be new in dynamics?..

At Siggraph 2001 A|W demonstrated an impresive new fluid/fire dynamics simulation system that might be released for Maya 4.5. This version is expected to be released in a month or two but it's not official yet. Don't even dare to ask how I know this.
If you go to the "Fluid dynamics" video in the link I posted, you'll see what I mean, it's not related to this release, though just some research A|W has been doing on producing fluid-like simulations using a fast and stable Navier-Stokes solver. Till now the way to create fire was by the effect option in Maya (which is a mel script that creates a particle emition with some extra attributes) or by just using common particle emitions and shading. Fire reacts and behaves like fluid and thus, by the use of this new system we'll be able to make more believable fire or create iso-surfaces from particle masses, ... and fliud effects of course. Oh, and it's going to be real time it seems.

Cool, uh?

Sounds promising :)

Sheep Factory > where did you get that COOL icon ?? hahaha, is there an animation of that ? :)

Oh man i hope you are right, i am shaking with excitement now :)

Chappo I forgot where i got this picture , but i'll be making an animation of it for sure during the christmas break , i'll post a link when its done ;)

Tell me about it! I'm really excited too!!! I'll get to be one of the beta testers if a beta comes up. Actually I'm working on some dynamics procedures and I'd like to figure out how to implement them into this new system. I've been working on some special particle&dynamics driven projects which I'll share with all of you guys at CGTalk. I guess I'll have it all finished shortly after this new release...and no, it won't be a bunch of mel scripts and code, but actually a little short, showing what is possible to do with a great particle system.
I guess sometimes, a programmer can be kind of an artist heheh, what do you think?

I say post it as soon as its done.

Particles are pretty much making art with math :D
