Hi hottes
Can you post any stills of your model?, I think thatīs the better solution to help you. If you show your model, and whereīs your problems, itīs possible that we are help you ;)

Don't use bones. Split your robot model in to parts! Like feet, legs, arms, hands...
Then place the pivot for each part and go ahead and animate!

You should move the pivot from setup and you will find it if you press F3.
Nice robot! Is it rendered in Messiah?

And let's not forget that the Movie intro for Mechwarrior IV (http://www.menithings.com/main.php?action=movies&movie_id=10) was animated in messiah by StationX (CafeFx). Ron Griswold did the rigging.

The article discusses some of the things they used in Project:messiah 1.5. The last paragraph is kinda sad though :(

Forgot to mention that the above image is linked to the article with information about what they used to animate the mechs. Here's a paragraph from it:
As far as expressions go, the most impressive-- and biggest time saver-- of all is CycleBranchMorphFrame. That's perhaps a confusing name, but what it does is so simple and elegant I'm surprised other packages haven't thought of it before. What it lets you do is pose your character and then create an on-screen slider that puts the character into that position any time you move the slider. Animations can also be linked to the slider, so animating a complex mechanical process, like the guns revolving and firing, can be done by simply moving a slider. [Editor's note: in the current version of messiah, this has all been reduced to a point-and-click setup called MotionBlender, that makes it even easier to use.]
