View Full Version : Modeling a f18-Hornet in POLYs
caffeineman 01-27-2003, 06:22 AM I am very in experienced in modeling, and my professor is always too busy to help me...
can anyone give me tips on how to model a plane in poly's (I just know how to texture poly's better than nurbs)...
I have the top and side views of the planes blueprints...I just don't know what to do...
any help would be great :)

if your comfortable working in NURBS,
you could always start that way,
and then convert to polys and tweak it.
just one of a thousand ways to do it.

Here's what I have so far....
The cockpit got all bumpy and I don't know how to fix it...

Most likely you have the object smoothed already? How about a wireframe shot of at least the cockpit. That way we can see what is actually going on there. I can't tell you the reason it's so lumpy without more information.

my advice....if it gets to hairy to smooth it out....is to cut out the cockpit....delete it....and go back with a curve, snap it to the verts where you cut it out....and use the quare tool to create a surface. This will be smooth...much more control...you need only 4 curves...and with the square tool, the curves dont even need the same parameterization...AND you can make the seams tangent with the surface
