View Full Version : Car: BMW Wheels
jcjimenez 01-27-2003, 02:03 AM Hi all!
I've recently finished a BMW Wheel model. The Rim was modelled with Rhino 3D (it was my first project with this Software) and the tire with 3ds max 5.1. The render was in VRay.
I hope you like it!

modelling looks fine, i think you should work on the textures and lighting a bit more, like giving it a bit sharper highlights...
for some reason right now the tires are lacking weight, which makes them kind of seem like toy car tires. at least to me.

Well, I agree with Stimpy. I think you would have to work more on the textures. They are really bad!!
..also you have to take care about the illumination... it seems tires are flying over the air like little birds... (pio, pio...)
..and the model is good, but I think you are not a Rhino expert yet...
One suggestion...work less, play more!

I have received a private message from pyrou now telling this:
"your wheels are shit and you are an ugly people"
that's what I want, constructive opinions... only 1 post? ridiculous... :thumbsdow no more comment.
Thanks the other post for the reply and comments :)

Okay, it would be nice to see the "real wheel". So we can see how exact your 3d version is!
One more. Your tire has far so less information. Where are the infos like: size, type. etc.???

yeah! you're right :)
It was a mistake not to include it in the first post. Anyway here it is:

The size and brand (goodyear) are bumped on my model, but I haven't got the touch. Any help with this? ;)

Just in the moment I've seen the reference image again I've notice something strange... voila! my rim has only 6 arms, while the original one has 7.
I ignored this fact while modelling. Well, no problem, I'll corrected late tonight (ufff, I saved in more than just one file)

Can't see the Valve on your wheel. And also that litle thing (you see on the real wheel) is missing. IMHO it's for a round move of the wheel.
Go and make a nice pic of a real tyre to get all the information a tyre always has.
Cya.
BTW. I only wanna see all the details Coz your only doing a wheel. If U also would make the car. I could say forget it. :wip:

Hiya again Daniel, :)
In fact, the wheel is for a bigger project (a bmw z3 car I'm currently modelling) but that's no excuse for the detail.
You have the reason. At a first moment I didn't think in modelling the valve nor the little piece (I never knew what the hell is that) but know I'm replanning the model and I'm going to include both the valve and the annoying-simmetry-breaking piece :)
Now it's very late,
but tomorrow will be a changes day. I've downloaded some good references tires photos in order to texture mine. And I'm going to remodel the 7th arm of the rim and the two missed pieces.
Hope you'll like it (but that will be tomorrow!) thanks again :applause:
P.S. Please sorry my english, it's not my natal language :wip:

Hi LoneWolf! :bounce:
Welcome to this thread! :) It will be a big thread but I'd try to make it interesting day by day.
:buttrock:
First of all thanks because of your offer. :)
Would you mind to make a "big" photo of the tire? (the whole tire I mean) because in the only reference shot I have, I can't see the whole tire and I would like to texture it as easier as I can.
Would you mind too telling me what exactly texts appears in the tire? (I mean not only the brand but all the texts).
Thanks, thanks & thanks in advance.
Please forget this if it's very annoying.
Thanks again!!!

I have to accept that djshivan is doing a great job!
He is learning how to use Rhino and I think it is a nice model for being the first!
I hope to see your BMW model here very soon...

Thx Pyrou. Just in this moment I'm working on a good texturing. Thanks btw because of the comment by Leigh in another post on how to texture a tire.
