View Full Version : Fusion Torchship
Wizdoc 08-29-2006, 09:02 PM The idea was to create something that's at least remotely conceivable and realistic to build (in real-life, I mean) in the field of space travel. So, here's a fusion torchship I've been tinkering with. The back extrusions are supposed to be radiator wings and the spheres in the middle the fuel tanks.
Modeled entirely in 3DS Max. No texturing yet.

nice. I think it definately looks like a vessel that could actually be built. I would like to see more detail and some more refined shapes. Alot of the stuff is very simple and could be spruced up....like, add some more pipes and wires and organic/round shapes. You have a ton of squares and cube-type shapes.

Thanks. You're right it needs more detail. I'm relatively happy with the middle part but the front and the rear could definitely use rounder shapes.
I'm trying to hit the balance where it looks like the ship looks like it's very factory-built and panel-structured, but not something that looks like it's several basic crude shapes thrown together.

Here's the first render. Re-did the nose section. Textures are very much temporary and just sort of thrown in there.
The idea of the final product is to convey not only an idea of at least a semi-realistic space ship, but also an appearance that's cold and dark. And that it looks more of a physical miniature than a 3D object (think Sulaco from Aliens). Anyway, here's the first render:

And yeah, I know the lens flare doesn't represent any actual light source, but I put it there to help the composition and give an overall idea of the style for the final animation.
