Hi,

whats a good way to go about doing particle morhping in Maya? You know like those car ads where car explodes into a cloud of particles, and can be morphed to some 3d shape and then morph back to car again. i know some composting will no doubt be in. but overall maya dynamic/particle should be able to do this right? I haven't touch dynamic/particles since maya4, but i have maya 7 now.

I like to setup a rig like this so i change the shape from a car to anything via particles. say I have the car model ready and I have about 2 weeks time. Anyone? ideas will be greatly appreciated.

you can blow your car with the shatter or with Blastcode, and than hide the original, Instancing the Particles, blow tham away and render the animation forward and play
it backwards for getting it back to unbroken.

very nice, when you say instance particles, do you mean turn the shattered piece to particles? actually when I say particles I mean 3d cubes, or spheres so they look neat.

You can use everyObject in maya, a cube, a stone, a tank, a butterfly, a Plane, or even
shattered pieces from an broken object and use the Particle Instancer to let them
behave like a particle, so u can creat an emitter and which emitts small rock balls for
example.

try google or the search here in the Forum to resarch a bit for instancing Particles, there
are lot good tutorials which guide you througe this instancingThing and will be very helpful
for you. 8]

yes I know you can use instance particles for crowd of objects. But the other problem been how to morph those particles to a specific shape, say i want them all flat, and later on turn them to a random could or more tricky one like a face.

I could morph the original mesh where particles are emitted, but that would be crazy.

actually the effect i want is quite like this maxon mograph video, where the human face is made up of cubes, except I want it too not just blow around but change to other shapes.

then you have to be familiar with goals.
i would modell the shape, and use the cvs as goals,
and with keying the goal weight you
can "move" or suck the particle to the cvs.

by the way this maxon Video really rocks,
i will try to reproduce some effects to.

and when it works on c4D its more than possible in Maya ;)
thx

I can't see the video, but if I understood what you said, heavy gave to you the answer. However there is a dvd called MAYA TECHNIQUES TIPS , TRICKS AND CHEATS FOR MAYA where there is a explanation about a scene where a basketball player explode and turn to a plane (with a movie mapped on it)...it works with goal and I think it could be a ball or something more complex as you wish. It just makes each particle attach to cv's plane.

I got another question, what if I want to splits the particles to multiple goals? imagine, one cluster of particles, splits to 8 smaller clusters, all with their unique shape? How could I do this,?

i tried to set the goalWeight0PP etc. in component editor, but it keeps getting reset to 0 when animation plays back...
