what do you mean by how can you do this? the entire sequence?
You need After effect ,plugins maybe , i can think of Particular , particle illusion maybe , or you can do it entirely in your 3d app, render each element in separate passes , comp it in AE or combustion or whatever .....

I'm no expert, but I believe Apples Final Cut Studio is capable of doing something similar. In the right hands Motion 2 and LiveType are pretty powerful design applications for this kind of work.
