Delanish 08-28-2006, 04:21 PM Problems:Adapting from 6 to 8
Questions:Photoshop and Painter- When to use which software?
The main Adjusting problem is with Painter is the drop down bar to change the brush and size, i prefer it in my tools bars, like in photoshop, not needing to stop working Drop down. just to erase part of my drawing

In painter 8 you have couple of keyboard shortcuts for resizing a brush, the first is the [ or ] keys to make a brush larger or smaller. Typing 1 through 0 to adjust the transparency, and for erase, assuming Wacom use, simply turn the stylus over.

In addition to what Tom pointed out, there is also a keyboard shortcut:
option+command (mac)/alt+ctrl (pc)
When you press these keys, you get a crosshair, click and drage and you will see a circle. This is the size of the brush.
There is a caveat to this. If your brush has the ability to go from a thinner stroke to a thicker stroke, say by pressure, the circle represents the extent of the brush when you apply full pressure.
A goauche brush, not set to pressure, no variation in stroke (below each brush is the size of the circle i made - I made it with the brush because my screen capture turned the circle into an arrow).

The exceptions are the wet brushes, Watercolor and Digital Watercolor brushes, which extend past the circle you make with full pressure. Those you will need to play with this method to know how large or small to make the reference circle with these keyboard strokes. But it does afford you a quick way to resize your brush.
