Hi folks, i´m trying to practice more with my tablet, reading lots of tutorials and learning from other peoples stuff. So i´ve started with color theory and thanks to my wacom i have all the colors of the world to paint with.

I´d love to hear your critics and coments please, focusing of colors, lighting and shadows. Also if you like the image or not, why, and what would you change.

Thanks!

It does look good ... but I'll offer a bit more. :D

What I like - I really like the concept of this one. The train is particularly well done with good lighting and textures (really looks like an old iron horse). The colors are bright and vivid, which feel good with the heavenly subject. The steam engine's exhaust and clouds blending together is a wonderfull idea.

What I don't like - The cars don't seem like they're attached to the engine. The bend is too sharp and at first I thought they were parts of 2 separate trains. There is a lack of detail missing in the rest of the image that makes the engine seem like it was pasted in. Too many light glows in the clouds that make me confused as to where the light sources are coming from. Too many different colors ... I think you can simplify the color pallette more to make this more dream-like. Take the direction that the train is traveling into consideration when you work on the clouds and steam exhaust (it should follow the direction).

I agree with Kirt. In addition, the passenger cars attached to the train are too light compared with the engine. Right now, they look like they are just an underpainting.
You did a great job on the engine! Spread that detain across the rest of the train and you've got a winner:beer:

Looks great Pancreas.

What I like - that kick ass Engine! That is such a nice tight but loose rendering.

What I don't like - Her. She is way to big to move around in those Box cars.

the Box cars don't read well. I think if you darken them, you won't lose the overall feel and they'll be better read.

But overall I like it a lot.

Cheers!

I love this concept. Reminds of an old anime I used to watch on Tv. I did a quick paint-over to show you how I would further improve your great picture:

I tried to limit the amount of areas where the eye was being drawn to by reducing the contrast in some back and front clouds. I also made the boxcars stand out more by adding the highlight on the side.

I hope this helps :)

Wow thanks a lot for your replies! Critiques! They´ve opened my eyes. I´m absolutely agree with the points you´ve mentioned, and i´m working on the image (changed nearly everything but the engine, the only thing you´ve liked)
Robcamp thank you so much for the paintover. Your lighting is more appealing, the sun in the bg, great!

You people are great! Till i finish the image, here´s a little one for your eyes only (photo ref, working on lighting)
