Can you tell me how did you set the shader for the plactic handle?
i mean, what's the color of the diffuse and ambian, or what other way you do it and make it soooo good. I hate to handle black object. because i don't know what colour should it be put on.

hi,
The first version of the plastic was 2 layers of brazil RS materials.
first layer is a brazil chrome matrial with the reflection made glossy.
this is because i don't use computer generated hilights anymore. so the chrome is to reflect the surroundings (a hdr image)
The glossy part is because the plastic isn't highly reflective.
i also added a noise bump
then i used a mix material and in the second layer i added an ordinary black material. I blended the 2 matrials so that the chrome is only visible for 15% orso...
later i managed to use only a chrome material and and just changed the reflectivity but it has the same effect.
here is the material (3ds max and brazil rs requiered)

I dig it, it definetely looks photo realistic. Good job.
My only complaint/suggestion is that you should adjust the camera to not blur out the eges of the scene/key so abruptly, It was a bit of a distraction for me.
As for the alternate shot, It looks like you can see through the middle ridge of the key and the edges of the key teeth look funny. Also, you might want to tone down the graininess of that render.

real nice work, Brazil seems to be the sh*t...
How long did you work on this piece from start to finish?

I am liking it allot. What was your lighting setup for scene?
very impressive, but... what's that strange noise on the black plastic?

the wood adds to it as well

In the end it did not take me that long to make, most time went into tweaking material and render settings. 8 hours perhaps?
the noise in the second image is not brazil i did it with photoshop because i set the glossy blur of the chroom to high. this should be smoother and hence better but it looked just to smooth. But i agree i probably went over the to with it...
the middle of the key looks a bit jagged..have to look at that yes.
thanks for the reply's thus far!

It took me some time but i was able to create a wireframe matching the photo;)
wireframe (http://www.imageafter.com/forum/download.php?id=10)
Scene was lit with one single HDR image useing Brazil RS (and yes it rocks!)

Good work your render is perfect
but your plastic keys modeling(in wireframe) is strange, have you optimised? or you have used boolean?
Good continuation!

very good work with the texture and the fact that it is slightly beat up.
A little bit too much DOF in IMO.

yeah i used powerboolean beta ALOT. thats one fine app.
About the DOF i know it isn't correct, i heard more people about that. maybe i should render one with a brail dof pass...
