kevin heller 08-25-2006, 07:29 PM im doing compositing in ae 7 all in 32 bit linear colorspace. my problem is how do i make color corrections in 32 bit linear using a tv (ntsc)monitor ? so far i cant, i have to switch ae to 8 bit in order to have the preview work on my tv monitor. can someone explain youre linear work flow while being able to make color corrections on tv. thanks

Thats because most video out boards and tape formats only support 8/10 bits per channel. What are you using to preview on a monitor?

hi,im using aftereffects and im using cybezka to preview out put fullscreen to tv .heres my problem .i like to work just using my tv as the display because thats my taget output. and i find that using my computer monitor for this is a waste of time. it doesnt look close enough working on the computer monitor to tv output .so using a computer monitor to preview for me makes it pointless, i have to almost redo my color corrections all over again when its time to go to tv. so the problem is working in 32 bit limits me to only working on my computer monitor, then when i iwant to prevew on my tv i have to save a movie from the 32 bit version so my brights get saved into the image , then i have to switch ae to 8 bit mode open the movie i just made then preview on my tv. then re do tons of color corrections. is this the only way?
and a side problem with this method for me is keying. when i first start i have a forground (actors) keyd out using ultimatte or primatte or keylite etc on top of my backround, everything is great. how do i make a movie with actors only and have the matt look the same when i comp that actor movie back on to the backround movie? so far i havent been able to get a good key doing this. the key looks fine when its all done in one comp (actors layer keyed on top of backround layer) but then when i need to make forground (actors layer)a seperate movie and comp that forground movie with the key now built in,the key doesnt look the same comped over the backround. now the reason i want to do this is i want control over the actors and backround when im color correcting on tv output. other wise im stuck with the whole thing comped together when im doing color correction on tv. sorry for this long wided redunt message, im just hoping this is all making sence.

What is your source material, (full cgi or video captured from tape)? If it is video, what tape format did you capture it from (d5, hdcam, betasp, dv, etc...)? If it is full cgi, what renderer and are you actually rendering at 32 bit float?
I don't understand why your working in float for television work. Your refering to greenscreens, but unless these are film scans, then your source material is only 8/10 bit in the first place. Your not going to magically get more color by changing it to 32 bit in AE.
