Tombigbee 08-25-2006, 02:27 PM Ok, this is pretty strange..
i had playblasting problems, but all ya good folks here at cg talk helped me to solve it :)
but i am still having problems with rendering
i am trying to render a scene
but it doesnt want to render!
its crazy!
it just hangs on frame zero for a while, and then all of a sudden it says rendering completed
then when i look for the render,
its not there!
crazy huh?
anyone know what could be wrong?

you are not really providing much to work with, you should have a look at the log file and see when exactly maya crashes, this should be pointing you into the right direction.
one step I always take is to SELECT ALL and EXPORT it into a new scene. It often magically fixes weird problems.

wow.....export everything...that might take while..phew...
BUT i am going to give it a go
i didnt actually think about that
NOOOOO whats happening to my brain
think brain think
ummm.... ok ye my log file says theres loads of problems with the ik i think, hehe
but that shouldnt stop it from rendering should it?
should i maybe copy everything in here?
i think that it might be a memory problem but i have 2 gigs memory wich should suffice i think
thanks mindsample, i will try exporting it, and then see what happens..
be back in a few minutes ;)

Yeah I've had a similar problem. Try selecting the camera from which you want to render. In the output settings drop down menu make sure its switched to renderable. it sometimes switches itself off in your scene and when you come to render it just sits back and tells you its finished!
failing that the export all should work when you import it into a new scene

YIPEEEEEE!
you guys are the BEST
if you were here in london i would buy you all a drink :)
vodka on the house
if you are let me know then i will buy you one ;) hehe
i tried exporting it in different ways...
i exported it just with the standard export selected and it worked!
i have NO idea why it did that!
but its working now
it seems to be rendering, phew
i thought i was going dumb and missing somehting
why does maya do that?
is that quite a common behavior for the software?
should i always approach these odd problems with the same logic... ie. export to new scene?
anyway, thank you so much guys.
thanks so much for your support!
by the way...
my camera was set to renderable..
i checked every possible thing that could go wrong..and everything was fine...
so i think that its pretty strange that the software just went haywire...

scenes get corrupted, nodes become orphans, things happen that cause errors. It is always a good idea to optimize the scene from time to time to minimize the risk of these things clogging up the scene.. Glad it worked.

hey dude
yeah....
its pretty cool that it worked
i often optimise the scene
i often try to delete what is unnecesarry
and use the nifty scene optimise function
but i have never exported a scene ever!
so its a pretty good idea i think!
and maybe its a good habit to have
i suppose that i corrupted the file with my wickedness
mwuhahahah
just kidding
thanks dude
