I'm working on rigging the head of a character with a long neck. I have so far rigged the neck using SplineIK with 4 control points. The SplineIK helpers are set up with 1 at the base of the neck that is linked to the body, 2 for the head (1 at the base, 1 at the top) that are linked to a Head control, and 1 that is at the middle of the neck. The idea is to control the whole neck/head using just the Head control.
The problem I'm trying to solve now is how to get the last Helper (in the middle of the neck to control the neck bend) moving automatically based on the position of the head control. I tried wiring the position of the helper to the position of the head control so that it would inherit 1/3 of it's movement. This worked fine while just moving the head control, but when moving the entire character things started to go wrong. The Head control was not moving with the body so I linked this to the body. The head control would then move as I wanted it to but this screwed up the wiring of the middle neck helper.
what I need is to be able to move/rotate the whole character (incl the head control) using 1 control and also be able to then move the head control independantly and have the neck/head automatically adjust to suit. Any ideas?
