View Full Version : Jenna Iterator <> Objects facing to Camera
Hi !!
I have duplicated objects along a spline using Iterator.
Now I want all of these objects facing/following the camera using
them as sprites - but still did not find out how . . .
Some hepful tip out there ??
I am using R8.5 - - - Thank you + Cheers [T]

AFAIK this isn't possible with Jenna.

Place in null and apply "look at camera tag" is an option.

Thank you !! You mean to place the iterated object under a null-object and apply
a "look at camera tag" to the object then ???

I just tried it, and yes, you're right. So, it'd look like this:
Iterator
-> NullObject
--> Object (with the look at camera tag applied)
Hope this helps.
Cheers

I tried it that way, too - but must be doing a silly mistake as it does not
work for me :-(
I´ll upload my file in case someone would be so kind to have a look . . .
what I would more than appreciate ;-)
Selecting the scene camera would help I think :)
Now you have the editor camera selected

Yeah, it works without a path spline, but it doesn't seem to work with one even if you turn tangential and alignment off.

I selected the scene camera ;-) It works for you ? Am I doing sth wrong
with the "face to camera" tag ???? I tried this tag in a simple scene with
one camera and one object only and nothing happens :-( :-( :-(

Ok - maybe this is the point why it does not work for me . . .
So no way of making use of sprites in this case ?!? There are some plugins
to duplicate object along splines around but I dont know of any which offers the kind of variation as JENNA . . .
Mmmmhh . . . . .

Just add the tag to the object and they all face the camera
What I see is they are following the camera but not really facing it. So the objects where the initial state is not facing the camera will follow the camera but not face it. BTW works only with the timeline on frame 0.
What I get is this (rendered image) :
The polygon-objects are not 90° to the camrea as they should
be for the purpose to fake small volumetric lights . . .

I thought this was a still render, didn't see that it was to be animated.
Can you not animate the camera along the spline ? With the tag applied
to the iterator object, they will face the movement of the camera.

No still rendering - complex animation. The splines are used to position the
sprites which should be animated by changing the parameters of ITERATOR
as well as the shape and position of the spline as a whole.
I could use vol-lights instead of sprites, of course - but this would be much more time consuming . . .

Since I'm not sure what you want to adjust, this may help.
Thank you :)
I attached a c4D file where you can see the difference :
- Iterator with polygons not facing the camera
- "Iterator" with polygon facing the camera (= Iterator converted
and the polygons manually adjusted.

It can be done (unless I missed something in my scan of this thread). You just have to place the plane in a Jenna Uber Null with a Look At Camera on the plane. And in the Iterator/Path turn off Tangential and set Alignment to none
Thank you bdJones !!!
Crazy - I had tried it with ubernull yesterday - but it did not work . . .
and yours . . . does work . . . ??? . . .
Now after puzelling a while I found out that the in my version the axis
of Iterator, ubernull and plane where placed in different positions . . .
After correcting this I now finally got Jenna-sprites !!
Great !! Cheers [T]
