Hello, ...couldn't resist replying to this. =)

The end result looks great, however....

I find this approach to designing a car to be a bit flawed, ...at least if you were going to actually build the car, but maybe that wasn't the goal in this case. Then again, maybe this is how cars are designed, ...that would explain why most mass production cars are poorly designed in mechanical aspects. Personally I would start by designing the chassis side and let it evolve from there, ...but maybe that's just me being stupid =).

Cheers

yes you are correct. but it is one way to make a car, maybe not a perfect method, but results in a quick model.

some of the modeling steps will help when going different routes to making models.

I don't think many or any cars are made this way either.

Ive got a few new tutorials on my site. It may help understand how some tools can be used.

hi
i've one question, i want to model a car in rhino. but i want later it use for animation, can i use nurbs created car for animation, i've heard much about this thing that nurbs surfaces are not good for animation. but i love rhinoceros.. plz help me.

yes it can be done.

What program are you thinking of animating in?

I use 3dstudio max, just export out of rhino into a polygon file. Give some thought as to what you want to animate.

Ive played a little with animation. but never got into it. Only thing I usually do is fly thoughs and simple camera passes. One thing I figured out was some basic keyframe method that linked wheels to a ruler and some dummy objects that I could turn and rotate when needed. Also I found a tutorial somewhere for making tires rotate with forward motion along a path or something. its been about 2 years since I dug into that stuff. I should try again. :-D

I also used that Miura modeling method to make a few other cars in the past that exported low poly to be used as a game model. Then the game dudes adjusted the poly's and it looked alright. I'll see if I can post those screen captures of the game model on my site.

This guy uses rhino and animates his cars.

only draw back might be that Rhino files are pretty high poly.

I would check out www.renderosity.com (http://www.renderosity.com) good source of help there. The Rhino Forum is always there for help when in a bind. and you can check out the community page, and click on tutorials, a good assortment in there. there is some more tutorials here also http://market.renderosity.com/~rhino/index.htm

some good tips in there.

also...
this might give some ideas, flip through the pages I think its for another software, but the idea applies across to Rhino.

no problem,, also you can scroll to the bottom of this page. and download the 5 zip files, and examine how this guy put together his models together.

http://www.rhino3d.co.jp/seminar/seminar_carstyling.html

its a combination of things, but mostly network surfaces, and then joined to make a polysurface that you can add and subtract other shapes from. Pretty complex model to pick appart, but if you learn anything its well worth it.

Hey Todd, not much, just keeping busy at work and in life. Ive made a few things, but nothing with the finishing touches put to them. Been to busy building my business up. I have been doing more sketching than 3d lately for a client. But I can't show that stuff. :)
