Hi I have been trying to get transparent shadows on a plane(snakes on a plane pun not intended), I am doing a slide show with photos, some photos have irregular shapes. I have tried everything and been searching these forums but I cant get the shadows to match my transpareny. I have tried mib_shadow_trans, P_shadow_trans, GI on(with direct illumination shadow effects on ) and GI off, Raytracing shadows, shadow maps, detailed shadow maps, shadow attenuation. I have tried different combinations, in global settings, in the lights, on the objects, in the shaders.
I am pretty new to mental ray so I dont even know if my shader is setup right, or if i am even using the right shader. I am using MR area lights, with a maya shader, and the shadow transparency nodes plugged into the shading group. also tried making a new MR shader but that messed everything up. Can anyone point me in the correct direction. Thank you

also how would I do ambient occlusion on a mac? I remeber I tried getting plug ins for this several years ago and it wasnt compatibly with macOS, is there anything built into mental Ray?

Photo1 = Maya render
photo2 = MR p_shadow_trans, incorrect shadow
photo3 = MR mib_shadow_trans, no shadow

Can you post a screengrab of the shading network? Or better yet, post the scene and I can check it out.

Make sure you set the attribute "Ray Depth Limit" on the light to at least the number of stacked tranparent objects. Do the same with attribute "Shadow Trace Depth" under raytracing in Mental Ray Render Globals.

Ok, I set both those options to about 20, which is higher than the amount of stacked planes. Still didnt change anything, is there a tuturials somewhere that explains step by step on how to set up these shadows in MR, including shaders, lights, and render globals? Here is my hypershade tree, I doubt its correct, dont really know how to do MR shaders
