The SCI FI Channel has confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series "Stargate: Atlantis" for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on August 18th, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.

SCI FI issued the following statement on Aug. 21: "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis.".... >full article< (http://www.darkhorizons.com/news06/060822c.php)

I watched an interview with them on the local TV network.

The directors seemed happy, they all felt like it was time to end; they actually tried to end it on year eight out of ten, but nobody really noticed what they were doing, so they continued.
The other Stargate will continue for at least one year. 300 people are employed in the all Canadian crew.

The studio is a short walk from my house.... I wonder what they will start using it for now?

Poof!

The 10th season had a purpose, to set a world record. There was really never any doubts about it not being renewed after that. I find it amazing that a show like this could go on for so long. I really loved it (still do) but a sci-fi show going for 10seasons seems unreal :)
The transition between having two shows into one will probably be rough and not very clean, but at least we can enjoy knowing there will be another Atlantis season after this one.

These are indeed sad news. I enjoyed the series so much.
Stargate Atlantis is not my taste...don't know why but it just doesn't feel right.

RIP SG-1

I was realy hopping for a union of the two series instead of one being canceled. It would make more sense to me if they kept running episodes in both galaxies under one series.

That was what I was thinking too after the first season of Atlantis. Having a 44episode/Season Stargate United! ;) But I guess money and such has a saying too ;)
