View Full Version : PSP Mockup Screen Shots

Thought Iíd post some of my undergraduate work for a little c/c, the concept is based in a prison environment (3/4view, lite rpg) on the PSP platform. As noted in the title these are mockups so model/texture restrictions were put to one side but it still had to look like it was made for the handheld genera (64x64 textures ect).

Its looking really good. What sort of poly count are you working with? One crit I have is the interface, though it's well designed, it takes up entirely too much real estate. I think players would prefer a slightly more zoomed in shot and a smaller interface, maybe even use some opacity.
Keep the screens coming, its looking really good!

awesome mate! the texture work is top notch, cant really say about the modeling at this size :P but the objects and character read very well. my only major crit about this is the massiveness of the icons and menu size. it takes up way too much of the screen. id downsize it a bit perhaps, unless these are pause menus. but if interaction is also happening it could be confusing. did you bake the lightiing into it or is it lit? awesome man

Nice! I love the perspective and the levels, the characters look good too. The interfaces are pretty enormous I agree! My only other crit is it is "genre", not "genera" :D nice stuff!

awesome!, I love the look!. Even without knowing what gameplay is like, it still looks like a fun game to play. It reminds me of an old commodore64 game called "The Great Escape". Wasnt much like the movie but you could collect different items and sneak around tunnels..etc.
What would you have to do in the game?

Iíve got roughly 24 screen shots (with psp) so Iíll post some more later on, your right about the menu stuff but I should have mentioned that the HUD stuff is toggled on and off. For example the stats window in the first image, and the inventory on the second image.
I've also got a lite Design Doc for this concept (around 100,000 words) so I might post up a few choice sentences along with the synopsis. This was one of three projects for my final year at University, I went as far as getting the images and intro video on to the PSP for the exhibition.

dude thatís awesome. A great presentation as well. How did you go about getting it all running on a PSP? Does your school have programmers and dev kits? Jealous :(. When are you graduating? Best of luck and hope to see more of the game soon.

I guess I never thought about it, haha, but the PSP does play movies, so its not too far off to think one could mock up the game for the PSP and then render out an AVI - way cool either way.

Nah our University has neither coders or dev kits, there just to expensive to buy from Sony. I created a video with the screen shots in sequence and the front end and used Video9 to convert it to the PSP format. If you know of any free video/file hosts Iíll stick it up.

just toss it on YouTube, I'd love to see it. Great work and an exellent presenation overall. How is the job hunt going?
i'd be curious to see how good those HUD icons actually look once in game. All those curved angles and diagonals will start getting blurry when scaled to fit in the screen.
Maybe the PSP can handle it better than others though, that's why i'm curious.

Luckly for me the job hunt was non-existent, I was offered work couple of months before I finished university.
I think on the PSP theyíd be 32*px sprites with alpha, so depending on the pixilation when reduced it might look a tad fuzzy, The alpha would have to be re-done for the 32*px . 32*px might seem generous but you would only ever see 6 at most on screen.

Everything is going smoothly. Iíve done about 16 weeks in the industry now, 11 at the current studio.
