View Full Version : U.S. Capitol Project
08-23-2006, 01:11 AM
This is my first time posting here, and thought that I would give this a try. This is something that I have been working on for the past few months. It is a model of the U.S. Capitol building, and is pretty much complete, with the exceptions of the landscape, some textures, and missing modeling pieces. The first pic is a render in vray using an HDRI map, the other renders are with vray but no HDRI map. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Since this it took almost two days for the posting to go through, i'm going to bump this up. Could use any comments or suggestions if any of you have any.

It looks good I am assuming very time consuming months huh. I like it what program did you use to build the model.
I see you are also in the DC metro area as well.
Keep going most people here will comment more as they see you progressing with the project. I will be watching to see how this comes out.

Well I live a few blocks from the capitol, if you wish I can post some reference pics.

Thanks for the comments guys. First off, I live just outside of D.C, 15 minutes to be exact, and have visited the place too many times. I have a complete library of reference photos that I used to model this. It is modeled in max, and I hope to have the texturing complete by next week. Have to work on some school work in the mean time.

Don't really have an update, but i'm working on the lighting situation, and trying to get rid of some crazy and weird shadows. Take a look at this thread for more details.

Finally I have an update that i'm willing to put up here. I finally got the lights to look half way decent, and got rid of some ugly shadows. Here is that update. Now I just have to mess around with the way that some of the materials show up, and the repeating materials as well. All in all, i'm almost done with this, and ready to get on with my next project.

altought it's surely also a bit copy-pasting, I wouldn't have the motivation an endurance to model such a detailed, authentic building.
I like it a lot! but this blue/green accent on the building makes it look like some sort of underwater building.
I hope you add at the end some people and other ambient stuff
keep going on!

Well its complete, i'm just fooling around with some lighting aspects and camera angles. Here are two low res pictures. I will post a high res picture sometime this week after I have all the camera shots the way I want them to look like.
Thanks to everyone for the advice.
