Hi guys,

I'm using bodypaint to suppliment max and was wondering (as i'm quite new to BP) how do you project an image onto the mesh, ie a tatoo image onto someones cheak?

Load the image into the software, then go your image viewport, select it, copy it, and then go back to your perspective painting view, and simply paste. It'll paste the image right into the viewport where you can then scale and position it.

Hey cheers, that answers that one :-) Just one other question that you might be able to explain, how do you paint through an object? ie paint both sides at once? As an example, i'm painting a ship that has lot of intricate parts, some double sided and i just want to paint the whole thing at once with a projected image from the side, if using the projection technique previously answered and i project a simple image to the side, when i come to rotate this i can see it's only projected onto the facing polys ... is this making sense?

I would do this in the UV setup. Just make the UVs for those parts where you want the same part of the bitmap applied overlapping.
If you want to use seperate UVs then use the clone tool to apply one part of the bitmap to another one.

Yeah that's what I'd recommend too :)

Given the object i'm dealing with it really isn't that pratical to do as you suggested. Basically i need to use one image to spread across the whole ship without leaving small gaps all over.

Is there no feature in bodypaint to project an image to both sides of an object, ie; with a box, project or paint to one side and the same is painted on the otherside?

This is quite a common feature in 3d painting software such as deep paint and zbrush, the ability to paint both sides of an object at once, i'm surprise BP can't do this.

It just seems a long winded way around something simple.

BPs toolset is a little outdated.
Really the only way for you is to use mirrored UVs.
