okok, let's post ;D

first of all, your UVW-map seems to be a bit wierd, the letters arent THAT big...

This image seems to be a photo, so I think you can use it as reference to fit your inscription's size.

Another point is your gold-shader...
gold isn't really an easy thing to simulate with max/c4d, even chrome is much more easier.

so I suggest to search some gold-materials and watch, how they are built to get an impression on how your material works or should work.

I hope, I could help you and I'm not just telling shit :[

Starting to look good but i think the inscriptions are a little too deap, almost looks like it goes from 1 side to the other, im not sure what you used a bump or actual geometry but it seems to harsh.. i would think you would want the inscription a little more suttle. Also picking subject matter that everybody knows like the ring from LotR doen't give you much leway, i mean we all know what it looks like so if you don't get it just like whats in our heads then people will think it looks wrong, but if this were some ring we have never seen then we would be more pron to except it for what it is.. not what we think it should be.. but all and all nice job hehe ..!

I agree with most of those crits so far, try and keep the shinyness down. With a little bit of refinement this could be an excellent image!! Perhaps once you are further along a little DOF would spruce things up? Keep it up!

Perhaps you should change the background. The woodmapping seems to be out of proportion (or the ring is really big). There's a lot of potential in the background. Simple woodmapping is perhaps not the best choice
