I am getting flickering in my animation with just FG. I had use FG mode auto and mulit is taking forever to render, my min, max radius is 1, 10 under FG. any suggestion guys?
Thanks in advance

You need to use GI with FG together to better interpolate your photons. Also, try doing a low quality (use low AA settings) FG pass so that you can "collect" plenty of FG points, make sure to use the append to FG map feature for Mental Ray so it "grows" the FGmap file. Then freeze FGmap file and render your animation; your flicker will be a thing of the past.

Thanks for the info JakCarver, So Fg Mode auto / multi doesn't get rid of flicker shadow automatically? anybody have success using just auto / multimode without GI to render to eliminate flickering shadows?
thanks..any info will be appreciated :)

Well, if you really dont want to use GI, you can still use the same technique for FG, difference is you'll have to use lots more FG points and you have to be better at finding the right min/max radii for the FG calculation to come out flicker free.

Try using alot of FG points, like anywhere from 1000-1500, depending on your scene could be more, though usually not. Then take the Maya measurement tool and measure the farthest distance from one point to another in the area you are interested in rendering in your scene. For example, lets say you have a scene of a house, but your only going to render a short animation of the dining room only, simply measure the size from one end of the dining room to the farthest opposite end of the dining room and use this as your FG max radius starting point. Now take 10% of that and make it the min radius. Use these values along with something like 1000 FG points (in XSI you can use as little as 500 and still get great results!) and do a test render.
I would test render this example by setting my antialiasing settings very low, like -2/0 and create a FG map file. Then render out the sequence while appending FG points to the FG file. The file will continue to grow pretty big; Iv'e had it grow to about 60 MB during an interior animation I rendered this week. This process worked just fine for me, Im sure it will for you to, good luck.
