View Full Version : "Eat paint chips" wip
Mendes 08-22-2006, 12:33 AM Still a LOT of work to go on this but I wanted to get some general feedback to see if it's headed in the right direction. The modelling isn't much right now either, but basically they're in a bar and the middle guy has his finger stuck in a beer bottle. Those are TV's up there and I'm still messin with their position too.

A lot of it is obviously just barely roughed in, but feel free to comment on anything. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hey I like it alot. I forget where that sound clip is from.
I guess I really don't have anything to critique since it's still in it's early stage. Kepp at it I look foward to seeing more of the clip.

Had a bit of time to tweak some things but there's still a lot more to go. The "why" part is buggin me and the blue guy is a mess. Any suggestions about anything at all?

Hmm, I think it's pretty good. Maybe you could make the why part look more like he has absolutely no clue why the blue guy is asking that. If you watch the clip you could replace 'why' with 'sorry' to fit his motion, especially the 'sad' face after the why. Maybe just have him stare at the bottle after the why, so he's looking retarded. Just a suggestion though, feel free to do nothin with it.

That was what I was going for actually. He doesn't have any idea why the question is being asked and he's not sad at all throughout the animation but the size is probably just too small to see his expression really. I wish I had a better host or something. I'm not liking these tiny res clips with bad quality heh.
But here's a 720x480 clip of a closer look at just the middle guy and no one else. No sound either.

I'm sorry but I still feel the same after watching the high-res clip. Apart from the facial details, the way he moves is not like he's some kind of dumb/naive person but more of a sad person who knows he's stupid. The part where he goes 'Why?' just check which direction he faces. If he doesn't look the other person in the eyes it's because he knows he's wrong. And that's the opposite of what you're trying to get. Also, after the 'Why?' he is once again looking away from the person who made the question. (The facial expression at that point is also questionable because it looks like he's trying to hide his inconfidence.)
I think most improvement will be made when you have your character turn towards the person who is saying the 'paint'-part (let's call him Bully). Don't turn the character away from Bully because then it looks like the character is aware of his stupidity.
Hope this helps.

Ya I definitely see what you mean now. Thanks a lot for the suggestions. There's so much that needs to be completely changed. I really should have planned this out way more and started with a more clear idea. At this point, it'd probably be easier to just scrap most of this and redo it but ahh well. I'll figure it out. I was mostly thinking of animating the middle guy saying "why?" knowing very well that he ate paint chips as a kid and smiling about it but trying to hide it. But that got mixed in with other ideas I had and everything sort of got mashed around so it's not very clear at all right now I guess.
