View Full Version : Setting Up a "Sky Dome"
mecha 01-25-2003, 11:30 AM Hi all,
Can someone please explain how to set up a SKY DOME? Seen it mentioned and used alot to nice effect, but have no idea how to set-up. All I know is it involves a dome (err......hmmm...obviously! )
I know it's probably ridiculously easy......
Thanks

Use DICloner, from DITools. Given a sphere with say 40-odd vertices, it will clone a light at each vertex. As _dd said, make the light a spot light with a target tag. You'll have to crank the brightness right down though otherwise it'll end up atomic-bright. Then use a sunlight for the key light.
The advantage is you can fiddle with the settings of just one loight to affect them all.
OR...
Use a big sphere around the scene with polygon normals pointing inwards (reverse them), give it a texture with just the luminance channel on and use Radiosity. But be prepared for 9873645876435-hour rendering times...

u could as i do use instanced lights too as this will mean u only need to control one light
as for the material version of sky dome i dont like it that much cause u aint in control of the shadows etc
and i hate that, well not hate but u know wat i mean
