Did you see the gizmo like (by default in yellow plane) you have to rotate and move that one until "the cut" satisfy your needs. I hope this help, maybe this wasnt your problem. I'll attach a screen i 2 minutes.

yep i did all that, i just need to make it cut new edges
maybe try checking the "split" aswell...
"dividing my model in half"
Maybe I interpreted that in the wrong way, of cource you should not have the split checked if you want it all in one pice :)
Have you selected the polygons you want to split before going to the slice plane?

very weird, i have done that as well and hit slice and quick slice and it still remians the same object with no line slice through
I fact, with the "split" option, you really cut your object in two parts, but they remain elements of the same objet, just select the sub-object element and copy it to have another object...
hope that helps you

If you are using MAX5, you can do it in edit poly modifier, move until ur slice plane go to where u wanna slice it, then hit cut.
I try the same thing in edit mesh mode, but it doesn't work, each time I have to convert the model to editable poly , slice, then convert back to editable mesh.

I recommend you look into meshtools. Its free and it has great tools for adding new segments....

Did you select the faces you want to slice? I'm pretty sure in Max 4 it won't slice them unless you select them.
