Hey everyone, something I worked on earlier today. He is doing a 540 kick, and some extra stuff.

Here is the first rough block. As you will see, the first part when he raises his knee is bad, and the end is as well.

Here is an updated version. Still very rough. The hands and face and feet are still not in key positions yet. I am having trouble with the subtle things, like when he first steps into his fighting stance. I want him to move his shoulders and arms just a bit, kind of in a cocky way of "get ready". Like Bruce Lee would do before he would attack or something. Also the 540 kick, needs to be faster, because it's to slow.

My main problem is finding a flow/ rhythm so everything doesn't look like it's hitting on the same key speed.

Please feel free to leave any comments/critiques. Thank you!

I think you need to find some reference videos before atempting to animate this.
Even if you do taekwondo or kungfu yourself, you should still video tape yourself doing those moves.

Also, you need to keep in mind, what drives what action. The hips twists frist? The upper torso?

And to fix the problem where everything seems to be stopping at same time, you just need to overlap your actions. Like, after your 540kick, your character's upper torso, arms, and hips all stop rotating at the same time. In reality, the hips should stop first, upper torso slowly settling, and then the arms should settle last.

Oh, and you have to work on the antic of all your movements too!

I like how you scale the character's body parts to get the squash and stretch. Works well overall, but the last hand chop there, the stretch might be a little over done. The first time I saw it, I thought something shot out of his hands or something.

You got alot to work on, but good job so far =P. I'm interesting in seeing the finish product.

Hey there David Thanks for the critique. I referenced myself for everything except the 540 kick. As of right now, I have no overlapping like you noticed and mentioned. The first video I posted the only reference I had was the 540 video, then I went and tape myself for the high knew and other poses. That would be really hard to try and do with out reference I would think. Or at least for me lol.

So far what I have I just wanted to nail down some key poses for that 540 kick. And I will definitely tone down that last hand chop at the end. Thanks!
