Hello All,

does anyone know of a MR shader that acts as a cut out for transparency when using shadow mapped lights? I.e. take a plane, apply this 'stencil' shader and the shadow map obeys the transparency generated by it? Apparently there is a shader for XSi that does exactly this, although I'm not an XSi user so may have got this wrong. Any help much appreciated.

Jules

Edit: I seem to be very good at answerig my own posts these days... for those that are interested, no special shading required, just check on 'detail maps' in the MR shadow map controls.

um, is there a way to do this in the regular maya software renderer? I am having the same issue. I need my shadows to follow the objects transparency. Yet I do not have mental ray installed, I used to, but its not anymore once I upgraded.

You HAVE to have it installed. It's installed alongside maya. Just load it via plugin manager.
