View Full Version : Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
Damsel 08-20-2006, 11:34 PM I have a scene in mind that calls for rain on a window pane. Drops, wet streaks, etc. I've done a search and can't seem to find anything that would give me a clue on which tack to take. I have 9.6 and HAIR, but no fluid plugins. Where would you start with that setup? Thanks for any guidance. :-)

Thanks Per, that is really neat. :-) I won't be animating this however, I just need the water drops on the windowpane and the glass to have that wet streaked look. It will be a still image. I do really like what he did however. :-)

what about the "place on points" plug?

Well, if it's a still, you might want to use Photoshop and make a texture out of it.
Or, if you want to stay in the third dimension (or dimentia, in my case) you might try metaballs.

Heh heh Bobzilla... I must have caught your dementia. ;-) I did go into Photoshop and created a drops and streaks map. In C4D I created two planes. Applied the straight glass texture to one, then made a copy of the glass texture and added my PS map in the bump channel and again in the alpha channel to remove all but the streaks and droplets. Then moved one plane just barely in front of the other and grouped them to form one window. I may have been able to do it in one texture with layers and then just have one plane. It's not too bad but I know I can do better with a bit more fiddling. Thanks to all for all of the help and advice! Outside of the window is a sky with a sky and trees image applied in the luminance channel like you do with an HDRI. I haven't done anything with lighting or the window wood...just threw it together quickly for a test of the glass. :-)

Now you're cooking. It looks pretty driech down your way. ;0
Cheers, Alan.

That looks really good!
All you need now is a kid in a baseball uniform staring out the window with his chin resting in his hands.

We usually have it at least once a day, even in summer.:)

Well, I couldn't stand it any longer so I had to look it up. Driech had the definition of dree. I thought it was going to be like those old sets of encyclopedias where one item directed you to another and that to another. :) Finally dree gave me dreary. Ahhhhh, success. And I'm glad it looks dree, it was supposed to. ;-)

:D You must admit "driech" sounds more expressive.:)

Yes, I have to admit it does. :)
