I recently discovered that with "misss_set_normal", you can use normal maya bump nodes in your custom shading networks, without resorting to bumpCombiner or other third-party mental ray shaders. To enable this, connect a normal maya bump to the input of misss_set_normal, then plug that into the base of mib_color_mix or some other layering node, and your shaders will have the bump mapping applied to them. I've attached an example file and a screenshot of the network in the Hypershade.
