hem ok so .. first of all, I'll provide a little background on me :)

I've always appreciated most forms of art and I've always liked to doodle stuff everywhere but I've never really been partly satisfied by my doodles until about two ( or maybe three I'm not too sure) years ago, which is when I discovered that I was able to assemble lines into something that almost looked good ... joy !

I've never really been serious about my art abilities until that fateful moment, after that I began to think that I would maybe like to try a career as an artist .... but I'm far from that right now hehe ^^ .. anyway, I juggled with the idea for a while ... and then I discovered DeviantART.... and I spent countless hours lurking around the works of some talented people there (I had waaay too much free time ..) .... that was a couple (5-6) of months ago.

About a month or two before the end of my schoolyear I took a resolution (let's call it a summer resolution :D) if I wasn't able to find myself a summer job (which I wasn't because I'm such a lazy ass and I tried way too late ..) I would have to draw a lot to improve myself.

.. So in short, I've been lurking in this forum for a few weeks and I decided to join to force myself to draw more (since I haven't drawn that much .... lazy me )

My art education is fairly poor with only one short session(a few hours each week for like .. 10-15 weeks) of cartooning lessons to which I was almost always late... and half a school year of art class, which was (even though it was short) really a bunch of fun :D !

I've started the 50 heads challenge two days ago (even if it ended a few weeks ago) because I think I can very well use that practice :) I will post them in a few mins when my scanner stops craping in my hands (litteraly) .... I will also post a few anatomy studies I made from a bodybuilding book (rawr big muscley men ^^) .

technical comments/advices are very much appreciated, so please don't feel shy about it :)

Hey there, Pierre-Lucas! Welcome to CGTalk!

I started the 50 heads challenge just recently to (who cares if it's over? XD Nothing can stop me! *cough*), looking forward to see how you're doing with it so I'll be back later when the pictures are up. ^^ Good luck with that scanner of yours!

(And heh, I noticed something funny... Your birthday is one year and one day after mine. xD Yay, September!)

thank you for this most warm welcome Vilhelmina :) and indeed september one hell of a month to be born :D hehe

oh and you can calll me by my nickname, or just the first half of it, I don't really mind my real name but I just think my nickname sounds better .. (yeah I'm weird like that  )

ok so here comes the two first heads I did
(I personnaly don't like the first one at all :/ but anyway)

now the next seven ! most of them are much more to my taste even too I still see some weird stuff in some of them

and at last the little muscle study I did a few days ago :)

hmm right now I'm using my Deviant art account to host these, they didn't seem to make any mention of that being prohibited in any way, but if I'm wrong please do correct me and I'll rehost elsewhere.

edit: (bleh didn't work .. rehosted on imageshack.. ) hmm I also realise those are quite big .. I'll make the next ones a bit smaller :)
reedit: made the images smaller

Ah, I'll remember that, then. ^^ It's always kind of tricky to know which one to choose... Some prefer one, some the other (and then there are those like me who use the same name in both places... heh ;) ).

Head 01 was a really tricky one to draw for me, too (I think it was both because of the 'weird' angle and how dark some parts were), so I can really appreciate your effort there. You drew her eyes so beautifully!

I'd say something about the muscle studies but I'm not really good at those kind of things. The chance I'd just confuse you is pretty big. Anyway, make sure to keep posting! :D It's a great way to keep yourself motivated to draw, and any reason to do so is bound to be a good one. ^^

Yeah the angle is a bit strange on #001 but I think it's mostly the combination of the shadows and colors of the sculpture which produces weird highlights, making it hard to draw ..:( , but I think you got it much better than me though :P but it was pretty much one of my first attempt to really shade something so X| ... the size made it a bit tedious too ... but I was lazy with it  but anyway :) it's just one in many !

You can still try :) even though it might be confusing, you can make your explanations partly graphical with a drawing to make it easier to understand ;)

so.. here's eight more heads !

http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/148/heads31xf6.jpg
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3416/heads32un7.jpg

I touched it up a bit in photoshop because it scanned pretty pale and I lost some detail through the process :( (I might try to scan it again tomorrow)

I experimented a bit with a slightly different shading technique.. I think it looks a bit better but I'll have to work a little more with it. Personnaly I think the 14 (Ref.011) is my best one, I really like the way it came out :).

I'll try do to more as soon as possible but I might have a bit less free time since I begin school tomorrow morning (ouch 8:00 am :( big change from the 3:00 pm I've been used to for the last two months ..).... joy !

(edit : changed the images .. it's a bit clearer but still not too good and I spent waaaay too much time on this :scream:.. . I'll have to find a better way to scan up my stuff ...)

More !

http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/2702/heads4contrastjs6.jpg
(played a bit with the contrast/luminosity to make it a bit clearer)

I'm still not totaly happy with the shading .. but it's much better than the first ones I did (at least I think/hope so). For the right one (#18) I think I got pretty much all the parts at the right angle, For most of the others I felt something was a bit (or very) off from the rest and it annoyed me :|

.. hmm I guess I won't be able to meet my (very optimistic) planned deadline of ten days  ..hehe ...

yet a few more (yarr ! I've done half of them :D)
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6665/head5tz3.jpg
this one didn't came out too bad I think :)

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9711/head6kb7.jpg
I put quite a lot of time in this one and I will probably work it a bit more when I feel like it ...

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/4566/heads7cx2.jpg

bleh the eyes of the 22 and the 24 aren't quite right .. :( but apart from that I kinda like the 24

I used softer pencils for those (HB and 2B instead of 2H and 4H for the first ones (my 4H is strange though, it seems softer/darker than my 2H  )) so it was much easier to scan them .. and it looks better overall in my opinion ....

hmm I might try to make something for the OFDW later this week
