First of I don't know if this is the right category to place my thread (feel free to move it, those of you whom have the power to do it). I have a problem when building sets, How much should build. I'm making a short film about the savannah, so should I build the entire environment and then place out cameras or should I develope a storyboard and then go and build out of it. I just wanna here your thoughts on this subject.

Thanks

Definitely develope a storyboard first and then build the set. Good preparation aves you a lot of work.

I had this argument with a director(or still have it) who has this "I don't believe in storyboards" attitude, since he has a theatre background.

True, you shouldn't go out of your way to create a massive environment without knowing what's going to happen and the general locations within the environment you'll want camera shots.
However, working on a film project myself, I find that creating "full" environments often helps lead to new creative ideas and allows you to look at the environment to use it in a way you might not have seen during the previsualization.
Of course an environment can always be extended. My best advice is don't create something you're not going to use. You want to make a quality set and get as many good camera angles as you can from it before you go looking to expand it.
