View Full Version : My Protoss WIP
chenzan 08-20-2006, 05:15 AM Hi, im working on a Starcraft piece for my personal portfolio. I just wanna put this out and get some feedback. I'd like to know what you think. Right now its very early stages of paint and roughing things in.
Heres some shape sketches i did and a quick color rough which i didnt use but in the process gave me a better idea of what i wanted. Next is the current painting that im working on for the character, just started it today maybe a half an hour in, havent gone into the painting and fleshed everything out yet but ive got a good idea of what i need to do.

This looks really good! Great design on the creature and very nice atmosphere created by the lighting. I like the strong backlight, it gives the creature a very pronounced silouhet. The top of the creatures head/helmet looks a little flat and devoid of detail though, maybe add a little reflected light?

WOW that's just amazing:eek:
In the future you should paint a dark templar:D

With the guy's arm there it takes away some of the intimidation of the protoss's approach, as it feels less like he's coming out at "you" but rather to finish that poor sod. It does add some narrative interest, though, and makes the protoss seem a bit more malicious.
It's basically sacrificing a more instinctual response for a more contemplative one. It takes away the "uh oh it's coming for me" and makes it more "oh look what's going on here".
It's a nice piece, it's already turning out great, keep us updated!

now that looks really good, although (from my vague starcraft memories) the creature doesn't look that much like a zealot (elongated head and the shoulder "wings"), but it could as well be that i'm wrong. i like it though, compo makes for some nice suspense, and i really _love_ the psiblade :bounce:
go on, and i second the motion for a (dark) templar, or any sc units ;)

Looking really nice. I'm digging the lighting situation you've got there. His arm coming out of the shadow into the light is nice. It really gives the scene depth. I think it's worthy of a contest submission.
