What you are asking is not very clear could you be more detailed.
One thing that I will mention is that wings uses only fully enclosed shapes. so any holes in your mesh will be Filled in.
Krugar, if it's a model from Lightwave this is a known issue and I don't know of anything you can do about it at the moment. Obj files from other apps should be fine as far as I know.

k, no worries, found the problem. i'm using maya 4.0 btw.
i'll just post the solution for anyone who cares or anyone who encounters this prob :)
see the highlighted faces in the pic below.... they are just extruded from an edge.... if u import this into wings every single face on the model gets disconnected from each other. so aahhh.... delete them first :)

I have truespace4 the only thing I ever used it for after I found wings is fixing models like yours
there is a plugin called solidfy which makes the objet whole
truespace is also a solid geometry modeler
I think it will work with ts3 as well and heard that it was free with some mag cd
if you can't find the plugin let me know and I will host it or email it depending on the number that want

I have no extruted faces like that, and my maya model still has all verts seperated. How can I fix this??
Edit: Nevermind, I found the problem. I've got some pretty tangled up faces inside of my ear. I went ahead and seperated that sucker and saved it as a seperate file, then I exported just the head(without the messed up ear), and it's fine now. Without the messed up ear, Wings went ahead and closed up any holes automatically.
