All of the models, textures (save for the stones which were found on the net), rendering, and postwork were done in ZBrush. The main focal point, the large bug in the middle, is a bit of a make believe critter. The rest of the elements were kept to a more "realistic" representation. It was not my aim to create a truly real environment but rather one that was quasi-surreal and contained enough of my own touches that it could be recognized as my own style. This is something I continually work at...defining my style that is. It is an ellusive thing to grab hold of to be sure! Crits I am particularly after are how well was the sand depicted as such......can you tell it was indeed sand or should it be more realistic. The red ants.....should I strive for an actual texture on them or are they good as is? (they are awfully tiny :) ) I already know about the specularity of the plant life.....i was attempting to keep the greenery from melding into the background. Thanks for viewing.

quite cool, have you ever played "gunman"?.. half-life engine game, that looks like it would fit into that game perfectly :)

I don't know much about Z-brush. You got a nice detailed scene there, the only problem is, I'd say, the lightning. The Image looks rather flat, with the same brightness in every corner. If that's possible I'd strive to add some shadows. I'd especially try to increase the contrast between the central bug and the ground right below it, so he'll become more visible.

I think the "focal point" is not the bug in your composition. In fact bug is lost over those stones.

I love the composition its fantastic. The only suggestion I have is also with the lighting. Its to bright. I have never used nor even looked at ZBrush so I don't what kinda of controls you have available. But I would lower both the spec and the diffuse on just about everything in there if you wanted it to be more photo real. But please don't underestimate how much I love this image. Bravo:applause:
