Im thinking of buing a second 19" monitor at some point after i upgrade my graphics card (currently a GeForce2 GTS, blargh). How does c4d function with dual monitors, ive heard maya is a bit of an ass there... but since c4d's layout is fully customisable i imagine it should be easy. if any of you use dual monitors can you take a screenshot of your dual monitor layout (that is only if you use both monitors for c4d, not just the other), as i am interested in how this might help workflow.

cheers

I am not at home so I can't take a screen shot for ya. But I use my main (19") entirely for the main viewport (and some shortcut icons at the very bottom) and the other (15") for all my pallets.

haven't been using my dual lately as I need to replace the plug on my fifteen inch monitor, but I was using R8 for a short while with the Timeline/fcurves, material editor, and four AM's on the second monitor, the main screen was the View the OM Active tool, theom and an am I tend to stick to one monitor a lot, so stay in main window when modeling, and second when texturing rendering and such.

i got 2 monitors plugged to my g4 dual gig... all i can say is... go for it! it's sooo good workflow that u will not want to get back to single monitor - EVER!

i have 17" Apple LCD (1280x1024) plugged to my GF 64mb and Iyama 19" plugged to some old ATI card... with 16mb and 1600x1200 resolution.

Apple LCD works as a viewing monitor - i got all viewports there + basic tools for moving scaling etc, and object manager.

on Iyama ive placed all the managers needed plus LONG timeline...

it's really a pleasure to work on a workstation like this... a specially with cinema4d or after effects.

take care!

whoa bunk, that looks really cool, me wants anutha monitah...

ADD: btw, can you have 2 monitors at different resolutions (ie have 1 at 1600x1200 with everything but the viewport, then have the viewport full screen on the other monitor at like 800x600)?

I'm currently using a dual layout with a 15" LCD and a 17" CRT, both at 1024 x 768. The LCD is my editor view monitor because it has a nicer picture, but I'm planning on replacing the 17" CRT with an 18 or 19" LCD which will become my main screen. I'd find it really hard going back to a single monitor.

Here's (http://bellsouthpwp.net/A/d/AdamTrachtenberg/dual_layout.jpg) my basic working layout.

2 monitors is cool. I could not live with out them. What I really want now, is two monitors seamlessly joined together.

Watch out for the max resolution of a dual output graphics card. That resolution is usually split between both monitors. (when you have both enabled) Also, under Win2000, if both monitors aren't the same size, your Windows task bar along the bottom gets stretched across BOTH monitors. I found it kind of annyoing. With matched monitors, the task bar stays on the left side only.

I think the best thing would be having 2 identical screens so you can't notice the res difference, the refresh difference etc.

Later versions of nVidia's utility--nView--let you place the taskbar at the bottom of only one monitor, even if the screens are of different sizes. You can also set refresh rates and resolution independently.
