I think I'm going to spend a lot of hours in this piece (in fact I already did) so I figured I might as well try to put it up here to see what you guys think of it.

I started this about a month ago from a very rough sketch (you can see some of it in the background still) just because I liked the sketch and didn't quite get the same when trying to redo the sketch. The downside of this is that I had to flesh out the majority of this piece while coloring it, and yes I already found out this is not the best way to do it :D I'm headstrong and want to finish it now, but I have a lot of other things to do too :(

The idea is simple: an Orc sitting on a boar in the midst of a pond/pool of mud. Serves him right for thinking that a boar is a good riding animal :)

I'm happy with your honest opinion, I like to hear every detail/major mistake you feel is not right in this pic.

I like the style your approaching this with. The animal skin on the orc looks a little too scraggly right now. Maybe it's just the way the lighting is being shown on it, it's very yellow, but nothing else seems be getting the same light.

For the other two guys in the back, I'm not sure if you want to have all their spears pointing to the side. You already have the front guy's spear pointing to the right, the tree there brings the eye back down, but then it hits those guys and goes off and up to the right again. Having one with a spear pointing back in might come off pretty obviously as a compositional mechanism. You might not have to go that far with the spear, might not even have to have a spear at all! But something else besides its current position would help.

Also, does that orc have cowboy boots? and tassles? It's pretty humorous. Not sure if it fits entirely, but cowboy orcs would definitely be cool.

TimonQ: Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. You made some good points, the animal skin was one of the first things I did after blocking in some colors and I wasn't happy with it either. As for the background, I haven't paid it much attention yet but you're right there. I think I'll have to play around a bit more with that.

The cowboy boots thing was not on purpose, but now that you say it :D I think tassels would be a bit too much though, but some spurs would be nice...
