hi there,
this is my first post at cg talk : i dont usually use on line forums but this seems like a wonderful community: theres none of the hostile air that i often encounter on line. so cheers! everything i have read here has been positive and helpful...so hopefully that helpfulness can extend to a problem i have...

my problem is this:
i have textured a low poly character in maya with a single 512 image. the texture mapping (UVW) is almost complete but i have two problem areas: the wrists and the points where the thighs meet the groin. its the same issue in both cases: i have a texture border that naturally creates a seam. i could just paint a generic colour over the seams so that there is no visible line (so that the two areas just blend down to shared uniform colour).
but i dont want to: i want to have a detailed area over the join... i would like to use a second smaller texture with alpha transparency in it that fades out at the edges so that it blends with the characters existing texture.
how do i do this in maya? do i need to create duplicate geometry to apply the second texture to or can i have more than one uv 'set' for the same set of vertices? a quick explanation on this would be greatly appreciated...
i hope that someone can help....
cheers
jake
