View Full Version : Simple Bone help please
dragonz 01-24-2003, 05:54 PM I have not worked with bones much, and I don't know how to weight them, or whatever you do so it stays in "place" when you move it. I need help just making this picture (as you see below) bend at each segment as far as it can without overlapping at the edges of the segment. (i hope this is not confusing) just think of it as a real backbone wanting to bent, but when it collides with another section it does not pass through it. Thanks to anyone that may help.

Hi,
This shouldn't be difficult. You can simply use a bone for each segment, fix the bone chain, and after that use XPresso to drive the rotation of each bone (if you're using R8). There's an example on the installation CD for a scorpion's tail.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,

There are some basic tutorials in the manuals. Do you want the individual segments to be deformed, or do you want them to keep their form? If the latter you don't want to use bones at all, but instead use basic IK tags on the various parts.

to prevent the colliding, rotate one bone as far as you feel is correct, and then write doen the angle its rotated, then use this as the rotation limit on all the bones so that they cannot rotate any further than the limit and thus cannot go through t the other piece.
